London Road Town Team and the BID proposal
Why we support a Business Improvement District (BID) for the London Road Area.
-
The Portas High Street Initiative showed that putting funds where they can make a difference to the shopping experience works.
-
After the Portas initiative ended voluntary funding and management have helped limit further decline, but long term it is not sustainable. Funds ran out in October 2016.
-
A BID will give longer term stability and enable the area to work towards prosperity.
-
A BID is owned and managed by the local business community and they are the only ones who have a say in how the BID is managed and the funds are spent.
-
Although the funds are collected through the rating system they are owned by the BID and not the local council.
-
There is a need to build on the changes that have occurred in the area (The Level modernisation, The Open market, the old Co-op building and The New England and Station Quarter Complex)
-
A BID can use the internet to make the area technically smarter and more friendly, secure and supportive towards our customers
