The former Buxtons furniture store closed in mid 2004. in 2007, planning consent was granted for demolition of the existing building and conversion into a mixed use residential/commercial building, however this consent was not taken forward. The site changed hands last year, and a planning application was submitted in November for:
“Demolition of existing building and construction of new 4no storey building providing retail (A1), offices (B1), financial and professional services (A2) and restaurant/café (A3) uses at ground floor level and student accommodation (sui generis) (total of 86 rooms) at ground, first, second and third floor levels with associated works.”
