I am pleased to invite you to attend my first Crime Summit on Fraud and Elder Exploitation being held at the Brighton Jubilee Library, 18.00 – 20.30 on Thursday 23 March. The event will be covered by the BBC. Part of my new ‘Listen Live’ programme this is the first of four Summits based on the key priorities within my Police & Crime Plan. This event aims to bring together a panel of representatives from policing, charity, government, banking and Neighbourhood Watch, chaired by the BBC’s Danny Pike, to propose solutions to the very real problems of fraud and elder exploitation here in Sussex.

Retrospective planning application – Beaconsfield Road BH2017/00510

LAT members may wish to respond to planning application that Cath mentions below:

I have received a letter from Brighton & Hove City Council regarding a retrospective planning application for 33 Beaconsfield Rd for change of Use from  a ‘6 bed single dwelling to a 7 bed HMO’. The reference is BH2017/00510.

The house is already being used as a 7 bed HMO without planning approval. I had a quick look at the planning statement over the weekend and the thrust of the argument seems to be it is already an HMO so why object and Beaconsfield Rd isn’t a suitable road for family occupation anyway so we may as well use for HMO accommodation.

I will write a letter in opposition as I did for the application at no.6 and send you a copy. I wondered if you could let the other members of the LAT know in case anyone else might like to comment on the application as well. We have until 14th March to lodge any objections.

Thanks and kind regards

Cath Prenton
