At the meeting of the Environment Transport and Sustainability Committee it was agreed to bid for funds for implementation of the Valley Gardens project. In this case the sum sought is in the region of £8 million.

You can watch the action on the Council’s webcast site: http://www.brighton-hove.public-i.tv/core/portal/webcast_interactive/140435 – the LAT gets a respectful mention!

The bid will now be scrutinised. If successful things may start to happen in March 2015.

You may remember that when Jim Mayor came to present at the LAT in May 2014 he got a spontaneous round of applause.

The scheme retains the traffic capacity of the Valley Gardens road network (“traffic neutral”) but tidies up the lane configuration. This has the effect of making the green space tied in with the western side of the area e.g. linking King and Queen to the green space, likewise linking York Place to St Peters green area. The aim is vastly to improve the amenity value of the precious central area.
